The Newage® MT90 Series uses a Rockwell-type depth measurement test method to increase the productivity and accuracy of microhardness testing. It is extremely suitable for high-volume applications and is ideal for applications with varying levels of illumination, focus or surface finish. The MT90 features an exceptionally fast test allowing traverses to be completed quickly, efficiently and reliably. Since there is no interpretation in the impression measurement, tests can be performed by less-experienced operators. Case depth analysis can be performed efficiently as well.
The MT90 Series consists of a microhardness tester, CCD video viewing system with solid-state digital camera, and personal computer with our Windows®-compatible testing and analysis software. Accessories such as X-Y table can be incorporated for a completely automated testing solution.
The MT90 Series feature test surface referencing technology and features that allow the measuring system to compensate for adverse testing conditions like deflection and vibration. Like the Rockwell method, the MT90 employs a minor load (preload) to slightly indent the specimen surface- thus establishing a good reference position regardless of irregular surface conditions. An additional test load (major load) is applied, held for a specified period and then removed. This difference in depth between the preload and major load is used to establish the hardness result.
The embedded software of the MT90 Series features intelligent prompts which guide the user through various procedures and setup steps such as creating a traverse specification file. All traverse operations are controlled through drop down menus. Setting up to test multiple specimens is a simple “point-and-shoot” operation. Just locate the starting point and traverse direction on each sample and start the test. Up to 24 traverses can be setup as a part of a single procedure. And traverse setups can be copied and used to create other setups. Setup status indicators show selected tester parameters. Test results appear with color indications showing tolerance status. Test values can be easily displayed using other scales. Operators can also save the screen image in a bitmap format to file and append with detailed testing results.
Traverse reporting and data management is simple too. All the test results and description information for your part is stored in a database format. This allows you to select multiple traverses for comparison from a single part or from many different parts by overlaying them onto the same graph. You can perform statistical analysis using the corresponding test result from different traverses. Other graphically rendered information can include tolerances that are created for key individual tests in the traverse or a “tolerance band” for the entire traverse curve or multiple Rockwell values for evaluation total case depths. |

Features & Benefits
- Rockwell Testing Method
Common testing method is easier for operators.
- Reduced Operator Influence
The MT90 makes the impression, measures the depth and reports the HRC value. The operator cannot influence the result.
- Less Surface Preparation
Tests may be made on surfaces as rough as those created by 400 grit paper. In many cases, the sample can be taken directly from the saw.
- Fast, More Productivity
Testing and reporting can be accomplished every 7 seconds compared to typical microhardness testers that test every 30 seconds.
- Menu-driven Software Makes Testing Easy
Even inexperienced operators can learn an operate the MT90 Systems in hours- not days or weeks. Comprehensive menus and intelligent prompts guide operators through setup and operation.
