According to the latest standards there are changes to both Rockwell and Brinell scales that users may be unaware of.  The test method for Rockwell testing (ASTM E-18-07) only allows the use of tungsten carbide ball indenters - steel ball indenters are no longer permited in almost all hardness testing applications.  Also Note: Operators using test blocks calibrated with a steel indenter must replace them.  There are additional criteria for Rockwell indenter manufacturing so we have new part numbers for these test blocks.  Also Note: There is currently no traceability for indenters used in hardness testing.
